All LPG cylinders – including automotive tanks, fire extinguishers, SCUBA tanks, breathing apparatus cylinders – in fact any vessel that holds pressure needs to be pressure tested.
Regulations dictate that all LPG vessels need to be pressure tested every 10 years, fire extinguishers every 5 years, SCUBA tanks need a hydro test every two years with a visual inspection the year between, breathing apparatus vary between 3 – 5 years. There are strict guidelines that need to be adhered to, to ensure that the vessel being pressure tested is within the set limits relating to rust and dents, to ensure it is safe and will withstand normal use before it needs to be retested. If the vessel is outside these limits then it will be documented as condemned, it will be de-valved and crushed.
It is recommended by the LPG Association of NZ that portable gas heaters are to have an annual safety check. Users of gas heaters often forget that this appliance gets dusty, not only when it is sitting idle but also when it is in use. Gasworkz is able to give your heater a 'health and safety' check using a meter that reads the gasses and temperature emitted by each individual heater and it must fall within the set guidelines – if not then the heater is deemed to be unsafe and condemned.
